The Monaco GP remains the jewel in Formula 1s crown and will be live and exclusive on Sky Sports F1 this weekend. But after having its inaugural F1 race in 1950, what makes it so special today? Is it the glamour, the prestige, the unique circuit? We asked some of the Sky F1 punditry team to share their views...DAMON HILLEveryones heard of Monaco. Its almost a synonymous word for grand prix racing. Its a famous, beautiful place in the south of France and its got a tremendous history, going back to before the war. Its one of the great challenges, but also one of the great social events of our sporting calendar.Over the years its changed naturally as weve introduced much more safety precautions but there is virtually no run-off. McLaren drivers Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button pose with footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and model Cara Delevingne At some of the faster corners they give you a small run-off area but the principal thing in Monaco is that youre right up against the barriers for most of the circuit, and its very difficult to pass.It makes qualifying one of the highlights of all the sessions we do in the season.ANTHONY DAVIDSONMonaco is still special, not just because of the history and the fact that its only one of the four remaining circuits on the calendar from the original 1950 calendar. Its special for the drivers mainly because of the close proximity to the barriers, the fact that they would never build a race track like that today - it really is a one-off. That makes the challenge of driving a Formula 1 car round there, in my mind higher than most other circuits that you go to. How Hamilton lost Monaco 2015 How Lewis Hamiltons infamous pit-stop lost him the 2015 race. Its a different format throughout the weekend, you run on the Thursday you have the Friday off and then its back to business on the Saturday-Sunday. It makes FP3 and qualy even harder in many ways because youve had this break. Its a circuit where you need to be constantly in a rhythm.Time is essential and even just one day out of that rhythm can affect your FP3 flow, whereas normally its just a continuation, a build-up towards race day. That makes it a circuit that really favours drivers that live on seat-of-your-pants driving, that are more naturally at ease in the car, naturally gifted, who can just turn it on. LOS ANGELES -- Southern Californias path to the Pac-12 title game is clear.A win over rival UCLA, plus losses by Utah and Colorado, would give the Trojans the Pac-12 South for the second consecutive year.In a quirk of the schedule, No. 15 USC will know where it stands before it kicks off against the Bruins late Saturday night, as the No. 11 Utes and No. 12 Buffaloes play early afternoon games. If Utah and Colorado both win, USC would be eliminated from Pac-12 title contention as it would lose any potential three-team tiebreaker. A Colorado loss to No. 20 Washington State would have USC rooting for the Buffaloes to defeat Utah the following week, holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over Colorado after a 21-17 win at the Coliseum in October. That puts USC players and coaches in the awkward position of whether or not to watch the scoreboard, with coach Clay Helton admitting he would.Ill look at the score and see where we are at, Helton said.Defensive end Porter Gustin wont actively be keeping tabs on Utah and Colorado, but figures he will know where USC stands anyway.Ill probably hear about it. Were all going to be interested, Gustin said. If they lose, of course its going to be nice. I think it will help get us up, get the energy up. Either way the energy is going to be up though.Though USC is coming off a win at No. 7 Washington and has won six games in a row, its longest streak since 2008 when it last won a conference title, everyone in the program insists there is no risk of a letdown this week against struggling UCLLA.dddddddddddd.Our backs are against the wall, safety Chris Hawkins said. We felt like that from Game 1, but it just didnt work in our favor early on. Now it has turned around and our hard work is really showing. That is especially true for the defensive front, which sacked Huskies quarterback Jake Browning three times in the upset win. Gustin has four tackles for loss in USCs last three games and sacked Browning twice, which he credits to more rigorous film study.I thought I was preparing as much as I needed to and then something wasnt going my way, so I knew I needed to step something up, Gustin said.If Gustin and his cohorts can maintain that pressure against UCLA, it could be a long night for Bruins quarterback Mike Fafaul. The former walk-on completed only 3 of 11 passes for 33 yards under duress in UCLAs 38-24 win over Oregon State.Getting after Fafaul would help keep up USCs end of the bargain to play for the Pac-12 title, and Hawkins insists he wont take a look at the outcomes involving Utah and Colorado until that happens.Ill find out afterwards because if you are worried about other people then you are not focused on what you have to do, Hawkins said. Our goal was to make the Pac-12 championship and thats still in sight right now, so we havent really moved past that. Were focused on UCLA. This is our last Pac-12 game. Hopefully we win and let everything else take care of itself.
