He was instrumental in the development of four quarterbacks in San Francisco, starting with Brian Hoyer and C.J. Beathard in 2017. That line was able to put a lot of a pressure on QBs and caused all sorts of issues for offensives that allowed the defense to excel. Current 49ers GM John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan are trying to build a defensive line that is as formidable as that line. The defensive line has been rebuilding for a few years with high draft picks, but it has not produced consistently other than DeForest Buckner. The offseason was used to add the final pieces that the defensive line needed. The team was lacking pass rushers on the edge, but 2 of the biggest additions should address that need. Dee Ford was signed as a free agent after having an excellent year last season with the Kansas City Chiefs and Nick Bosa was drafted with the #2 overall pick in the draft.
