Oregon has hired away Colorados Jim Leavitt and will make him the highest-paid defensive coordinator in the Pac-12, a source told ESPNs Brett McMurphy on Wednesday. The move was first reported by Fox Sports.Leavitt, who has spent the past two seasons turning the Buffs defense around, will sign a four-year deal with the Ducks. In a tweet posted Wednesday night, Leavitt said that Colorado has been great to him, but he couldnt pass up opportunity for family!Buffs quarterback?Sefo Liufau?also weighed in on Twitter, writing that he was surprised by the announcement but thankful for what Leavitt has done for the program.?When Leavitt arrived at Colorado in 2015, the Buffs were coming off a season in which they ranked No. 120 nationally by giving up 6.6 yards per play. This season, Colorado has climbed to No. 8 in the national rankings, allowing only 4.7 yards per play. The Buffs are tied with Michigan and Ohio State for the national lead in pass defense, allowing 5.4 yards per attempt.This is all welcome news for Oregon, which allowed 41.4 points and 518 yards per game in 2016, both the third-worst figures in the nation.Leavitt is the first major hire for new Oregon head coach Willie Taggart, who did not retain Brady Hoke -- the defensive coordinator for the final year of former coach Mark Helfrichs tenure.Both Taggart and Leavitt are former head coaches of the University of South Florida.
